Selenium and Appium testing are popular use cases for Robot. What about using Robot with cloud testing services like Sauce Labs? How is it different than regular test automation?
Two popular use cases for Robotframework are web app testing with Selenium/SeleniumLibrary and native mobile app testing with Appium/AppiumLibrary. These libraries work fairly well with local browsers and devices, but what about cloud-based devices and services? There are several cloud providers for test automation platforms such as Sauce Labs, Perfecto, Lambdatest, and so on. How does using Robotframework differ using these platforms from using local devices? What's better - and what's not as good?
In this talk, I'll discuss my experiences with helping teams use Sauce Labs with Robotframework, including
- Some common pitfalls teams encounter with using cloud providers for the first time,
- How using a cloud provider platform differs from using local devices and
- Approaches teams can take to optimize for running tests in the cloud.
This talk will be informed by my experience as a Solution Architect at Sauce Labs, and will be as platform-agnostic as possible.
